Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire – Quick Review

I bought the Fenix 3 Sapphire a couple weeks ago.  My co-worker saw it at a marathon and couldn’t believe it was a Garmin.  It’s stylish, bling bling look make it a head turner (for better or worse).  I’ve received a lot of “is that a girl’s watch.”  Regardless, I’ve been loving my first experience with a high level Garmin Watch.

What’s Cool

  • The automatic updates to Garmin Connect and Strava are amazing.  It takes a bit of research on the front end, but works like a charm.  My activity tracking (steps, sleep, calories) and also my actual exercises (runs, rides, skis) all show up automatically within 3 minutes of being in range of my cell phone.
  • The easy to use activity choices.  Select your icon and go.  Particularly the snow activities have come a long ways.  The downhill ski function tracks a bunch of cool stats on feet descended, speed, and breaks your runs down.  Pretty cool if you are in to that….which I am!
  • Quick satellite discovery, takes like 5 seconds.  My old 220 even with all the updates was like 10 minutes.
  • Cell phone updates are pretty cool.  It’s nice for quick reference.  I don’t recommend it for folks who aren’t tied down by work email/txt/cell, but if you are it’s rad.  You just get quick updates.
  • Gold face plate is killing it.  I feel like Drake, if Drake started biking and skiing.

Not Cool

  • It’s kind of big on your wrist.
  • The charge when you have everything rolling is not as good as I thought.  Lasts about 4 days for me with doing an activity every day.
