HED Jet 6 Plus Non Black Wheelset Review

The HED Jet 6 wheelset has long been a classic for cyclists and triathletes.  I wanted to point out some of the obvious benefits of the Jet 6 and then also provide a couple over looked selling points.

  • It’s a scandium rim with a carbon fairing glued to the outside.  This allows for a metal braking surface.  Which means no swapping brake pads and easy to install clincher tires/tubes.  This makes it a favorite among-st age group triathletes.  You can train and race on the same wheelset, and fixes are as easy as they come for road wheels.

  • Back in 2013 Tony Martin brought some attention to the Jet 6 by rocking it in pro time trials.  There was lots of aero data about the wider rim and clincher use that convinced Ole Tony to start ripping the 6.  So, you know these babies are aero.

  • I think it’s the ideal wheelset for punchy to 1k long climb, group rides/races.  They are incredibly aero at 20 mph plus.  Jumping in a breakaway or going for the sign sprint. I find myself reaching for the 6s often on group rides.  I say group rides, because by myself I have trouble averaging the pace needed to really get the aero benefit.  However with a group you can get up to speed and really feel the differences.
