5 Highlights – Montana Gravel Tour

Our Montana Gravel Tour is an excellent opportunity to experience Montana’s best gravel roads. For this camp we are based out of the Swan Valley, 45 minutes from downtown Missoula, Montana (and The Cycling House headquarters). The Double Arrow Lodge serves as our host and a Cycling House chef prepares all of our home cooked meals. If you are looking for an incredible authentic Montana experience this is the trip for you!

The locals’ favorite time of year to ride in Montana is the fall. Crisp, cool mornings give way to gradually warming temperatures throughout the day. The fall colors always impress, especially the spectacular golden hues of yellow Western Larch (one of the only conifers that changes color). After a summer of dry, dusty dirt roads, the traffic dies down and gives way to some champagne gravel.

We have been riding these gravel roads for the last ten years and we think this trip has some of the best gravel cycling in the country. After a week of cycling the path less traveled you realize exactly how wild Montana is.

Our rides for the week take us in and around the Great Divide route; this entire route takes riders from Canada to Mexico. The Great Divide route has been made famous through movies like “Ride the Divide”. We will ride some of the most dramatic sections of this spectacular 2,500+ mile route.

The Montana Gravel Tour is a great opportunity to get some base miles in for your cyclocross season. The tour is also great for gravel riding beginners. The rides can be smooth and short, and you can learn tips and tricks from The Cycling House staff. Gravel riding is exploding in the United States, and what better way to start than to ride some of the best gravel in the country!
