Brendan Halpin – Back to Back Ironmans

Our lead guide Brendan Halpin is attempting to pull off the double Ironman.

Last weekend he finished The Ironman US Championships in 9:14 (good enough for 19th place).  This weekend he’s headed to Canada for Ironman Mont – Tremblant.  Back to back Ironmans!  Crazy right?!  I did some research to find out how common this is.

If you search “back to back Ironman” in Google.  The first 4 or 5 things that pop up are coach’s articles talking about needing 3-4 weeks over recovery between Ironmans.

Further down the page you get to the good stuff.  A Slow Twitch Forum discussing the back to back and even back to back to back Ironmans.  Turns out Joe Bonness has down the triple every year since 1999.  Granted some years there is an extra week between races.  He not only finishes, he’s usually in the top 3 in his age group, including a 9:38 at Kona in 2007.
