HED Jet Disc vs. Jet Disc FR

I had a customer ask me the other day what the difference was an I couldn’t really tell him.  If you look at the pictures they are pretty much identical.  Let’s first address the things we all understand.  The HED Jet FR Disc is $300 more and weighs 80 grams less then it’s younger brother the HED Jet Disc.  1210 grams vs 1300 grams.

If you look on HED’s website the only listed difference is the “1k FR carbon aero section” on the FR to the “3k FR carbon aero section” on the regular disc.  The FR uses a slightly different carbon weave that makes it lighter.  It also has a titanium skewer.

Bottom Line:  Aerodynamics are not effected by the 80 gram difference.  The Jet Disc FR is the top of the line, but for almost all amateur triathletes and road cyclists the tried and true Jet Disc will be perfect.  If you have some extra cash and you are doing hillier individual efforts the FR could be of benefit.
