BH Quartz Review

The BH Quartz is our rental bike for 2015.  It’s a light weight compact carbon bike with Ultegra.  The bike can come with 105, Ultegra, and Di2.  It even comes in a disc version for 2015.  We have several of them built in the office so I’ve been putting it through the paces on lunch break.  Here is a summary of my thoughts.

ACCELERATION – The Quartz clearly falls in the crazy popular endurance carbon bike.  Made famous by the Specialized Roubaix and now the Cannondale Synapse, Look 566, and pretty much every carbon bike company.  I’ve ridden most of the major players in this market and the interesting difference with the Quartz is that it’s really snappy.  It doesn’t have a long wheel base and so when you want to sprint it really accelerates.

HANDLES – The position is a bit more upright, but the bike has no problem with cornering.  I don’t like it at high speeds 35mph plus.  It just feels a little squirrely to just go all out.  It doesn’t shutter or anything, just feels a little un-easy.

CLIMBING – This rig climbs like a goat.  I would take it over almost any competitor in this class.  I can’t believe it.  The standard position is pretty much the perfect long distance climbing position, and the weight is great stock Ultegra right around 17lb.

OVERALL – Price and quality here are ridiculously good.  I think if more people knew about BH this bike would be flying off the shelf.  The most interesting challenge here is picking your size.  I have ridden the small, medium, and large all on big rides.  It’s weird.
