2012 CycleOps PowerTap Hubs

PowerTap has come out with a new and improved line for 2012.

At first glance, you notice the new all black color, stylish look, and overall smaller size.

G3C Hub – This is the lightest PowerTap Hub ever assembled at 315 grams.  In my opinion all PowerTap Hubs are light enough to lace them up to a race wheel.  However the G3C has now made it possible to hook it up to ultra light wheels like the HED Stinger or Zipp 303.  The other major component is the ceramic bearings made by Ceramic Speed.  With all this flash you are going to pay a high price but for some it will be worth it.  Best Uses: Ironmans, Stage Racer

G3 Hub – The G3, is only 10 grams heavier at 325 and doesn’t have the ceramic bearings.  It’s still a nice option for someone who cares about weight but not about ceramic bearings.  Like the G3C it’s fully capable for creating an ultra light race wheel.  Best Uses: Ironmans, Stage Racer, Grand Fondos

Pro Hub – The Pro is back for another year but is much improved.  It weighs in at 446 grams which is 20 lighter then the 2011 version.  The Pro is the most affordable way to get into power training without building a donkey of a wheel.  We just laced one up to a DT Swiss 415 and the wheel is fully race-able and comes in at $829.  You still need a cycling computer, but Garmins are becoming more popular and are ANT compatible.  Best Uses: Weekend Racer, Grand Fondos, Group Rides
