They are in the 2013/14 catalog.
HED is making a Jet plus. It will be the same construction as the popular Jet Series wheel with a 25mm rim. The Ardennes Plus has been well received. In our product testing and talking to HED its a nice option to a legendary metal wheel line. The question remains whether or not the switch to all 25mm clincher rims will be sustainable. The majority of our wheels sales are still 23mm.
I think riding the HED plus wheels feels like riding the HED Stingers. The Stingers are 28mm wide tubulars. The feel is very similar, especially when you run the plus Ardennes/Jet in a tubeless setup. After having mechanical success in a couple races with a tubeless setup I’m not a convert, but I 100% see it from a customer standpoint. The party line for cross racers making the jump to the next level in equipment (for me this is 6+ races a year) has been you need a second tubular wheelset, or tubeless specific like the Stan’s No Tubes stuff. I can honestly say that you can buy one wheelset for the whole year.
HED Ardennes Plus LT/SL/FR (cold weather climate example)
January/February – trainer tire
March/April – 25 or 28 training tire with tubes, going to give you handling in the slush
May – June – 25 tire tubeless, reliability, comfort, and handling in fast group rides, roubaix’s, and road races
July – December – 32 cx tire tubeless, low pressure availability
Just an example, but you see how it can be done. Certainly with that many miles per year the wheels wouldn’t last as long, but the ease of use and utility would be rad.
This post completely changed subjects from the Jet Plus to cross racing (very similar to how most of my interactions go).
