After searching far and wide for a unique gravel trip destination, we are launching a new trip, and it’s what gravel dreams are made of. We are headed to the Chiricahua Mountains to discover the undiscovered in Arizona and New Mexico.
If pushing your gravel limits, seeing untouched beauty, and riding somewhere not many have heard of—all while getting the full TCH treatment—speaks to you, we think you are going to love this one!
Where are the Chiricahua Mountains?
Chiricahua, pronounced cheer-e-cow-ah, is nestled between Las Cruces, NM and Tucson, AZ. It offers breathtaking vistas and unique geological features situated at the intersection of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts.
Why Chiricahua?
When searching for our next mixed-terrain trip destination, this underrated area in Southern Arizona kept popping up in our conversations. It’s not an understatement to say, “This place is really wild.” Covering over 12,000 acres and with 85% of the mountain range designated as wilderness, the area is a haven for wildlife and untouched natural beauty.
Who is this trip for?
This trip is speaking to the adventurous ones that are looking for a mixed terrain cycling vacation. Expect rides for every skill level, and options for the week will range from open high desert routes to treks into the Chiricahua Mountains. For those who like it spicy, let us introduce you to our Queen stage, with up to over 8,000′ of climbing.
Where will we be staying?
Relaxing after a big day on the bike will be easy on this trip. Our base for the week will be the Painted Pony Resort, providing the perfect setting to relax, unwind, share delicious meals, and swap stories. This resort will feel like home, offering amenities such as a swimming pool, hot tub, expansive outdoor space, ten bedrooms, six bathrooms, a bike mechanic-friendly garage, and stunning mountain views. Nobody will be going hungry, as our TCH chefs will be preparing wholesome meals, just like at our homebase in Tucson.
Why do we think you’ll love this trip?
“I’ve traveled far and wide searching for a new gravel experience, and the Chiricahuas captivated me as soon as I laid eyes on this remote and wild sky island mountain range. Once I took a few pedal strokes, I found what I had been searching for. It’s off the beaten path, and I like it that way; if you want to experience the true spirit of gravel, this trip is for you!” – Brendan Halpin, Director of Trips
