The Cycling House is happy to announce the winners of the 2015 Cycling House Scholarship. Now in its 3rd year, the scholarship provides two individuals with the opportunity to attend one of the winter Cycling House training camps in Tucson. Each year the scholarship goes to riders who demonstrate considerable passion for cycling, a desire to race, may not have the opportunity to ever attend a TCH camp, and possess the potential for progression in the sport.
This year our U-23 scholarship winner is Austin Gomes out of St. Louis, Missouri. He started biking at three years old and hasn’t looked back. By the time he was six, Austin had accompanied his dad on many training rides and rode the Tour de Donut in Illinois. Since then Austin has raced any chance he can get. He is currently the Missouri Time Trial, Track, and Criterium state champion. He rides for the Quantum Mesa Cycles racing team in St. Louis and eventually wants to race for Team USA and an elite development team. We are excited to see Austin rip the legs of guys twice his age at camp.
Our second scholarship recipient this year is Jenna Lyons from Missoula, Montana. She got into bike racing as a 15 years old after spending all summer working to raise enough money for a bike. Jenna then spent the next three summers riding every day and racing time trials, triathlons, and hill climbs. Road riding is still close to Jenna’s heart, but she recently fell in love with cyclocross and mountain biking through her MT Alpha women’s team. With a community to ride with, and a new found passion for training on dirt and grass, Jenna is looking forward to a successful 2015, starting with a camp at the Cycling House of course.
Congratulations Jenna and Austin! We look forward to sharing in your passion for cycling.
