5. Muscle Stimulation
Muscle stimulation is gaining traction throughout the US endurance athlete market. Involuntary muscle contractions are a great way to promote muscle recovery, growth and endurance. Hammer Nutrition provides the best technical support and is a huge promoter of this technology. I used Compex electrical stimulation to help treat and prevent injuries. I have implemented electrical muscle stimulation into my regular training routine and my strength and recovery have been at levels I never thought were possible.
4. Running Shoe
One of the best feeling, well designed and real feeling shoe on the market is the Zoot Sports ultra Kiawe. The shoe was designed in conjunction with ITU World Champion Javier Gomez and Ironman US Champ Jordan Rapp. Zoot uses a carbon shank for lightness and rigidity, 6mm of drop for a natural feel and a slip on design with laces for added support and stability. I personally raced the shoe in everything from sprint distance races to Ironman and still love it!
3. Bike Trainer
Riding a trainer can be a bit of a challenge but Cascade Bicycle trainer is the quietest, most stable and affordable trainer on the market. Cascade offers two levels of their fluid trainer and the Fluid Pro Power offers power, heart rate, speed and cadence all for under $400! The quality of the product is amazing and I actually enjoy riding this trainer and the lifetime warranty offers a good peace of mind. I have been using this trainer for several months and I’m excited to have the opportunity to train with power on my weekly trainer rides. Enter the code BRENDAN at checkout for an additional 10% off.
2. Device
The technology world is constantly changing but the Garmin 910xt is the best solution for the multisport athlete. The sleek design, various features, and ease of use make this a great training device for all sports. The GPS feature works with swimming, cycling and running and provides unique options for each of the three sports. Tracking your swims is something new for Garmin and a pool vs open water option makes each swim accurate. The Garmin 910xt is great on the bike because you can easily pair it with your power device for real time power outputs. A wireless upload also makes it easy to upload to Garmin connect, Training Peaks or Strava. It should be in a category by itself but I would also add Strava as a great gift option.
5. Casual Clothing
Everyone knows how to look good on the bike but looking good off the bike has never been so easy when wearing Mountain Khakis! MK is a Jackson Hole, Wyoming based company and has been producing quality clothing for the mountain lifestyle since 2003. Their pants are durable enough for the hard job or commute and still look good enough for almost any social engagement. The highlighted product for winter is the Mountain Khakis Flannel-Lined Original Mountain Pant. The pant has triple stitched seams, reinforced heel cuffs and is flannel-lined to provide softness and warmth in the winter months.
