The Cycling House has been hosting camps with Hammer Nutrition for the past 5 seasons. Owen formed a relationship with Brian Frank owner of Hammer Nutrition while road racing with an elite road team based out of Seattle, Washington. Owen had been running The Cycling House for one season prior to hosting his first official camp with Hammer Nutrition. The house atmosphere offered clients a unique opportunity to not only train but use the full Hammer Nutrition line including; fuels, supplements, electrical muscle stimulation, and coffee. The camp had a winning formula and Hammer Nutrition now offers 3 camps over the course of the 2012 season. The focus from January through March moves from base miles to higher intensity rides as folks progress in their training towards race season. The Hammer Nutrition camps in February and March still have a couple additional spots if you are interested.
Clients have the unique opportunity to not only use all the Hammer Nutrition products but also spend the week with founder Brian Frank. Brian started Hammer Nutrition in 1987 and has continued to grow the company offering athletes the highest quality fuels & supplements available. Hammer Nutrition offers endurance athletes healthy fueling options and will never sacrifice their beliefs to create a product for popular demand. Hammer Nutrition continues to offer products free of simple sugars and substitutes healthier options like xylitol and stevia as their sweetners. Complex carbohydrates from maltodextrin are used rather than sucrose, fructose, glucose or any other simple sugar options. Hammer Nutrition products will not include dyes and only have the essentials for fueling your body in endurance endeavors. Fueling for any endurance event can be confusing so clients have the opportunity to pick the brains of the experts while they attend camp. The aromas at The Cycling House in the morning have also gotten much better thanks to the sweet smells of 53×11 coffee pumping out of the automatic espresso machine. The Cycling House staff is also well versed in the Hammer Nutrition line and we have a ton of experience racing, training and recovering with the products.
The January 2012 edition of The Hammer Nutrition camp with The Cycling House was a smashing success. The camp had campers from all over the country and they covered nearly 300 miles in 6 days of cycling. Beautiful weather helped make it a relaxing vacation for those escaping winter and everyone left with tan lines to prove it. The follow van had the full line of Hammer Nutrition fuels and supplements and campers were able to fully dial in their nutritional plans. Recoverite was served after each ride and campers had the opportunity to use Compex electrical muscle stimulation units under the guidance of kinesiology expert and endurance coach Jim Bruskewitz. The camp had some amazing food thanks to chef Drew Peterson & Jess Cerra! We hit all the big rides including San Manuel, Gates Pass, Mt Lemmon and Madera Canyon. The highlight of the week was getting nearly the entire crew to the top of Madera Canyon after a hard week of cycling. Madera Canyon ends with a difficult 3 mile climb that has a short pitch of 14% towards the end of the climb. The camp was topped off with fiesta night that included; carne asada tacos, margaritas, dancing and all around good times. I’m already looking forward to the February edition of Hammer Nutrition camps.
