My in laws bought me the Garmin Edge 705 for Christmas. I had always wanted one, but it was the cycling accessory that I was too proud to buy. Cycling is not about power meters and constantly looking at your average speed. However, there was big a part of me that wanted to join the world of fancy cycling computers. I still haven’t committed to the Power Tap, but the scenarios are flying around in my head.
I took the Edge 705 cross country skiing yesterday. I try to ski without knowing the time or distance. My hope is that I forget about time and just keep skiing. I must admit it was a bit discouraging seeing an average speed of 5.4 mph. However when I hooked it up to my computer and saw my route it was fun to see where I went and plan tomorrow’s adventure.
So my in laws give me an Edge 705 and my wife gives me a book called “Bike Snob.” The book basically makes fun of people with Garmin’s. It presented a cycling image dilemma. Am I a snob or a nerd?
