Watching an Ironman can be exhausting too.  Over the years I’ve secretly been working on my Ironfan skills.  I’ve watched the likes of Downtown JB, Coach Bassette, and Matty Shryock and picked up tips along the way.  Here are the most important items:

-Coffee, Quick Internet, Huge Breakfast, Comfy Clothes, Twitter

Here’s a run down of my day watching Brendan via the world wide web (approximate times MST):

7:00am – Make coffee and think about how hard it would be to swim 2.4 miles…put my slippers and sweats on

8:00am – Panic because Ironmanlive video is not working..realize it’s not supposed to work till later…calm down…excited again..Halpin coming out of water any minute

8:15am – 1:03 swim for Brendo.  Freak out thinking it’s a new PR and he’s going to win CDA…check results realize it’s not and settle back in

9:00am – Keep refreshing athlete tracker to see if he’s at the first time check.  Where is he?  Did something happen?

12:00pm – Forgot about Halp, just remembered!  Refresh page, whew he’s in there and having a good bike, good chance at running people down for a top ten

2:00pm – Starts run a bit back, but first split shows 6:51 miles…holy crap he’s going to go top 5!

3:00pm – 6:53 splits..check other competitors see there’s a big gap to top 5 but realize there’s guys just in front of him…come on Halp

4:00pm – 8:28 splits….crap he slowed down….why did he slow down I say out loud in my sweats on my 4th cup of coffee for the day

4:30pm – Frantically turn on video, refresh, refresh, buffering, buffering, here comes Kessler…whoa realize how fast she is….and then she’s totally beating a ton of really good dudes…mad respect to female triathletes

4:45pm – Halpin on video!!  9:30…check internet…is that good….yes it’s good!  Yeah Brendo!

Great result for Brendan and his sponsors Hammer Nutrition, Ark Intervals, Zoot Sports, Hip and Fracture Institue of Nashville
