New Garmin Edge 1000

Garmin has released a new product and I think it’s a big deal.  It’s not for the every man/woman rider but it certainly will be a hit with the tech junkies and serious riders.  It connects to more things, makes life easier, and looks cooler.  Below are the official specs and upgrades.  The biggest notes for me are the maps already being on the computer with the lowest package, and the Strava style leader board.  As always DCRainmaker is slaying it with the reviews.

  • 3” Higher resolution color touch screen display, much easier to see in low light and much sharper detail.  The display allows the device to display in portrait or landscape mode.
  • Both the Unit and the bundle come preloaded with Garmin Cycle Maps
  • Unit can pair to Shimano DI2, and display your gear ratio and your DI2 battery life.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy:  Iphone 4S or higher will allow for text email, and incoming call alerts.  Android phones will do similar stuff to what they do on an Edge 810.
  • Garmin Connect “Segment” compatible.  We will have Segments and leader boards now on Garmin Connect.  Edge 1000 owners will be able to download their segments to the device and can see the beginning and end of the segment, and in real time see where they are compared to the leader or their previous best time.
  • Control your Virb or Virb elite camera, pair with ANT+ HR and Power Meters
  • New Edge Remote allows you to start/stop, and switch training pages without taking your hands off the handlebars!
  • Newly designed speed/cadence sensors.  Small, light, and require nothing to be mounted to your bike frame!
  • Other accessories include a new extended out front mount, and silicone cases.
