Powertap has come out with a new hub. The Powertap GS is similar to the G3 in function but has some fun bells and whistles. It’s available now.
-320 grams, 24 hole only, DT Swiss bearings, straight pull spoke hub shell
At $1089 retail it’s more then the G3 at $789 however you are paying for the DT Swiss name, technology, and quality.
So, is it worth $300 more? Well unfortunately, only time will tell. Right off the bat with the positive reviews, weight, and appearance on the G3, the answer is no. The G3 at $789 has been a great value, and customers have reported really good things since 2012. I think the GS is a great move and could offer some value for a customer looking for a little upgrade in hub quality. However, Powertap hit it on the head with the G3 price point and it will be tough for customers to turn that down when looking at the full line.
