Do you like the Garmin Forerunner 910xt but it’s out of your price range?
Have you looked at the Garmin Forerunner 310xt. It’s actually quite similar. Let’s compare.
Price: 910 – $399 310 – $249
Differences: The 910xt blew my mind when it came out. Creating a tool for triathletes has been long over due. My only concern was that it was on the expensive side. Just $50 cheaper then the Garmin Edge 800 which has full map features (basically all the features of a hand held GPS Unit). Still I thought the 910 was a great product and it sold itself. Instead of a competitor coming out with the lower end model to sell to the masses…..Garmin is once again ahead of the curve. The Forerunner 310xt is $150 cheaper and here is what it’s missing: Virtual Racer Feature, Swim Metrics (stroke type, stroke count, and pool lengths), Training Effect, Barometric Altimeter.
Summary: If you love your swim metrics it might be worth the extra $150 for the 910xt. However for the masses of triathletes I believe the 310xt has plenty of bells and whistles (including ant power).
