Tuscany 2012

The town of Montisi is the coolest town you’ve never heard of.

Montisi.

Try to find it on map.  It’s buried away in the heart of Tuscany, 1 hour south of Siena.  Lass than 400 people live there and for two weeks this spring it became our home.

John, John, Ernie, Anthony, Toby, and Jerod pose after the 2nd section of Strade Bianchi. Shade was premium as the day reached 85 degrees.

The house had Picturesque views from the door, complete with a pool and fresh garden.  While the house was the nice, Montisi and the riding is what made the trip.  Espresso, and adult beverages a stones throw away at Mama’s, and hilly beautiful countryside out your door.

The riding was challenging.  The days ranged from 20 – 60 miles and 1900 – 4600 feet of climbing.  Our biggest and most memorable ride was on the Strade Bianchi (white sand roads).  We did 15 miles of Strade Bianchi on a 60 mile day.  The climbs are not long, but some are extremely steep and a flat stretch is almost un-heard of.  Our longest climb was 4 miles.  Every ride was complete with an espresso stop.  We rode through the famous stops of Montalcino, Pienza, and San Gusme.  We tasted fine Brunello wines and ate Nutella Crapes until we exploded.  Click the link below to see the Strava Stats from our biggest day:

We took full advantage of what this amazing place had to offer. Riders did wine tasting, dinners out, and evenings exploring the local village.
