We sat down for a Q&A session with legendary tri coach, Jeff Cuddeback, to get his thoughts on TCH and what guests can expect on his upcoming triathlon camp with us in California (March 29th-April 3rd).
Q. What do you love about The Cycling House?
A. Solvang 2020 will be the 12th Cycling House camp I have attended as the resident triathlon coach. I keep coming back because the TCH staff share the same passion for the sport as I do. All the staff members are accomplished athletes, and they love sharing their race experience and insights with the guests. The staff’s commitment to excellence and their can-do attitude is infectious. Guests immediately sense this and are more willing to engage in high-level athletic performance and fully participate in all the camp events. The atmosphere at camp also produces tremendous camaraderie amongst the guests and staff. We eat all our meals together as well as reside in the same accommodations. Also, the food is amazing!
Q. What is your role at The Cycling House Solvang?
A. My goal for Solvang TCH Tri Camp is to help each guest more fully develop their athletic potential as a cyclist and triathlete. In addition to the daily cycling guided by the TCH staff and assisted by me, I will conduct and coordinate daily runs and swims. Even though the run and swim workouts are optional, I encourage guests to take full advantage of all the training opportunities at camp. There will be ample time to run or swim either before or after our daily rides. I will conduct daily swim and run training along with a full complement of drills and exercises for each discipline.
Q. Do you plan any discussions for TCH Solvang?
A. Yes! I am a veteran triathlete, completing my first tri in 1983. My career includes over 300 triathlons, five age-group World Championships and multiple USAT Athlete of the Year honors – including the 2018 Grand Master Triathlete of the Year. I have three Ironman World Championships and set a new age group record each time. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience I can’t wait to share with my fellow athletes. One of the benefits of attending TCH Tri Solvang is each guest will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with me and pick my brain. Each 30-minute private chat is in addition to planned group discussions. Topics will include training quantity vs. quality; avoiding injury; and training and race nutrition.
