I’m originally from Mendon, Vermont, a small town in the heart of the Green Mountains.
Growing up I spent my free time doing all the outdoor activities Vermont has to offer, but I mostly spent my time on the ski slopes racing competitively.
I continued ski racing for a few years at Middlebury College, but decided to call it quits after multiple knee surgeries.
I started road biking in high school to train for skiing during the offseason, and throughout my injuries biking has always been a reliable hobby.
After I retired from skiing in college, I joined the cycling club at Middlebury as a way to fill my free time and get some of my competitive energy out, but more than anything, I loved riding bikes every weekend with my friends.
I still loosely call Vermont home, and when I’m not biking I love getting out to ski and hike too.
What is the best thing about working at The Cycling House?
Working at the Cycling House perfectly combines my love for riding bikes with the joy of creating wonderful experiences for other people too. I love meeting new people and I get to do that every single week.
Do you have a favorite ride?
Right now I think my favorite ride is climbing Beartooth Pass near Yellowstone. Though the climb is challenging, the views are so spectacular that you almost forget how much it hurts. Plus, you can get going pretty fast on the way back down.
What is the most memorable day you’ve ever had on the bike?
There are a number of awesome gaps to ride in Vermont. Middlebury Gap is one of them, which also happens to have a ski area at the top. On a beautiful day in May, a couple of friends and I set off to ride the gap with skis strapped to our bikes. When we got to the top of the gap, we hiked up the ski area and watched the sun set at the top before an epic run down.
