Our 2020 Cycling Trip Dates Are Live!

Hard to believe The Cycling House started in 2005 in Tucson, Arizona

When the snow starts to fly in Montana, the bright sunshine and clear, smooth roads beckon us south to Tucson to kick off our winter cycling season. The Sonoran Desert in Arizona provides all the ingredients for spectacular riding during the winter months. Tucson continues to up the ante for winter cycling destinations: improving rider-friendly roads, opening new restaurants that add to its reputation as a foodie hot-spot, and of course having one of the best climbs in North America (Mount Lemmon) right out our back door!

After many years of hosting cycling camps at different residences in Tucson, we finally made our dream a reality and bought a place we can permanently call The Cycling House. Since then we have been updating and adding unique features to our new home base, which is located in the foothills of Mount Lemmon. We are incredibly proud of our new place that boasts a remodeled pool and patio, some swanky yurt sleeping accommodations, and, as of last year, a new outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. The Cycling House feels like home!

The central coast of California and the Santa Ynez Valley are magical places to ride bikes.

We hosted our first trips in the Santa Ynez Valley, California in 2015 and instantly fell in love. One of the things that attracts us to this area is the access to quiet country roads that meander through vineyards, rolling hills, and mountains. The riding in the area speaks for itself and you quickly see why many professional cycling teams come here to train for their European races. We base ourselves out of the award-winning Ballard Inn & Gathering Table. Here Chef Budi Kazali dazzles us with his creative and specialty cuisine. And nothing crowns a day of pedaling through picturesque vineyards quite like sharing a bottle of local wine with friends.

Mallorca, Spain is a road cyclists paradise!

The climate, culture, scenery, roads, and everything in between makes Mallorca, Spain one of the best places on the planet to ride bikes. We’ve experienced cycling culture in many places, but nowhere comes close to Mallorca. We base ourselves in the small village of Alaro ( a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range). The village quickly becomes home for all guests of the bike, and it is fun to stroll down to the village square for Gelato or an evening glass of wine. The rides offer a bit of everything – a variety of terrain, scenery, and culture. We are excited to host Mallorca trips during 2020 in both the spring (May) and fall (October).

Cycling through the rolling hills of Tuscany paired with a glass of Brunello or Chianti makes for the perfect day.

Cycling in Tuscany, Italy is what dreams are made of – the perfect ribbons of road weaving through the countryside, endlessly linking village after village. Some of the best wine in the world comes from Tuscany and paired with the region’s incredible food, you have the ingredients for a great cycling vacation. Our Tuscany trip is truly special because it’s based out of a bed-and-breakfast south of Siena, away from the hustle and bustle. The family who runs the B&B have become an integral part of our Tuscany experience. The family prepares the meals we enjoy at the B&B and source many of the ingredients from local farms. They cook over an open fire and make pizza and fresh bread in a 500-year-old wood-fired oven. We’ve found a nice balance between dining in and going out to enjoy the local cuisine. TUSCANY IS FAMOUS FOR ITS HILLS! Each ride on this Tuscany cycling trip is challenging, but always has a few café stops along the way. Wine tasting, soaking in a natural hot spring, taking a cooking class, and touring Siena (a UNESCO World Heritage site) are all on the itinerary. There is plenty of recovery time built in too, for riders to relax and do some exploring of their own.

Owen & Anya Gue did a recon trip to the Dolomites last summer and came back stoked!

The Dolomites are a mountain range in Northern Italy, located in the province of South Tyrol. There is a wonderful blend of Austrian and Italian culture in this picturesque region. It is one of the most scenic mountain regions in the world with quaint villages, strong culture and history, good food and good wine. The Dolomites are included on the UNESCO List, and the landscape offers epic riding as you climb the jagged peaks and legendary roads made famous by the Giro d’Italia. This cycling trip offers the very best of the Dolomites and Italian Alps. On this trip, we spend three nights in the heart of the Dolomites in Corvara.  Our accommodations at Hotel Table will sweep you to another time and place that most of us have only seen in the movies. We enjoy hearty, authentic meals after full days of riding with a spectacular rocky backdrop. For the final three nights of our trip, we transfer to Bormio, which is in the Italian Alps and home to the Stelvio and many other famous Giro d’Italia climbs.

Riding the backroads of Montana is something our staff has done for years, well before gravel road riding was a thing. We love to show off our backyard!

The Montana gravel itinerary covers the area between the Swan & Mission mountains of Northwestern Montana.  The area between these two mountains hosts part of the The Great Divide mountain bike route, a 3,000+ mile route from Canada to Mexico following the Continental Divide.  The routes are primarily smooth, double-track dirt roads and have received national attention with the growing popularity of gravel cycling.  The goal is to find that champagne gravel, and Seeley Lake is our go-to spot for gravel cycling adventures.  The rides are fully supported by ride guides and our support vehicle.  Most days have longer or shorter options, so you can scale your day to how your legs are feeling.  As we all know, gravel cycling isn’t about the mileage, it’s about the amount of time you spend in the saddle.  We cover great distances as we plunge down the fun mountain descents and shorter distances when the road gets rough or the climbing gets steep.  A huge part of the Montana gravel camp experience is the adventure!  During our week we ride sections of the Great Divide route and the views will not disappoint.  If you are looking for a gravel cycling adventure this trip is for you!

Glacier National Park holds up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful places in the world!

Montana is our home state and we love to show it off and share the experience.  Each summer we look forward to spending time in the place that we know and love.  Glacier National Park is a place that you can visit every year and the breathtaking beauty is special and unique for each visit. Going-to-the-Sun Road is a must-do ride in itself, with breathtaking views of u-shaped valleys, mountain lakes, rivers, glaciers, and one of the most intact ecosystems in the world. Experiencing Glacier National Park from the saddle allows you to be a part of the surrounding landscapes –one of the most beautiful in the world! The Flathead Valley is also home to a host of amazing road routes and we explore these finer points of Northwest Montana.
